Forming a Competitive Soccer Team:
If you have a passion for soccer and are dedicated to helping young players develop their talent in competitive environment, we want to hear from you! To learn more about transitioning your U10+ rec team to the competitive program, first reach out to Pam at president@cvysl.org via email.
The process of forming competitive teams starts with an enthusiastic coach. Before the second season of play, all coaches are required to finish the U.S. Soccer Grassroots education course (US Learning Center) that corresponds to the level of play they are coaching, either 9v9 or 11v11.
The coach who is interested in leading the team is responsible for ensuring that the minimum roster size is met. For 9v9 games, the minimum is 12 players, while for 11v11 games, it's 14 players. Although CVSJ can provide assistance, interested coaches are responsible for meeting all requirements.
Teams participate in a competitive league, which comprises regionally-based divisions for Premier, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper level teams.
The coaches serve on a voluntary basis and have the option to coach either a single season or year-round.
Coaching License Pathway
Central Valley San Jose Soccer Club is committed to supporting all coaches, from beginner to advanced, with education tailored to their experiences and the needs of their players. We are proud to share that a number of our parent-led coaches, who initially started within our Recreational Program, have continued their education and achieved their USSF National Coaching or Grassroots License. Their dedication has allowed them to transition into coaching within our competitive program.
U.S. Soccer offers an Introduction To Grassroots Coaching module, which represents the first step in the coaching license pathway, and is the required prerequisite to undergo any of U.S. Soccer's Grassroots Licensing Courses.
